  Flag of the Netherlands

Flag of the city of Amsterdam

We took the high speed Thalys train from Paris to Amsterdam on Thursday, May 10th.

We stayed at a wonderful hotel called the Hotel de Lantaerne which was out of the major tourist areas.

Our hotel on the Leidsegracht ("Leides Canal"). Our room was the corner one hidden by the tree branch.

No comment on this sign! It was a source of amusement for us Midwesterners!! It was located right outside the Centraal Station.

View from our hotel room window at the Leidsegracht. Leidseplein. Touristy restaurant/bar area near our hotel. (We didn't spend ANY time here!). This is how it looked at 7am.
More of the canals and houseboats. One of the many views of the grachts (canals) and houseboats.
Cobblestones are still used here. Urban and Kathi riding the tram.
Buildings constructed with the walls leaning out to facilitate moving large objects to the top floors using the roof hoist. Another example of the "lean."
Notice the elephant head and "trunk."
Homomonument - we are sitting on one-third of it.
Art deco lobby of the Hotel American. Internet cafe where we spent our early mornings.

The following photos were taken at a garden near Haarlem, close to Amsterdam. It is called the Keukenhof and is only open for two months of the year when all the flowering bulbs are in bloom.

Kathi and I in the Keukenhof gardens.
